Emsculpt Vs. CoolSculpting™: Which Works Best?

If you’re thinking about body contouring but aren’t sure which option to choose, you’ve come to the right place. Not only is there Emsculpt, but Emsculpt NEO. The same applies to CoolSculpting – not only is there CoolSculpting but CoolSculpting Elite.

Each procedure offers transformational results, but deciding what’s best for you depends on how much fat you want to remove, the muscle you want to build, and your budget. Let’s look at your candidacy for body contouring, along with what each treatment can do for you so that you can make an informed decision.

Candidacy for Body Contouring

Generally, the ideal body contouring candidate will be an adult who has stabilized weight loss. You should be healthy, lead an active lifestyle, and eat a balanced diet. Plus, you should not be significantly overweight or with a BMI of 30 or higher, within 15-20% of your goal weight.

These qualifications allow patients to make the most transformational results. Body contouring is not meant to be a weight loss treatment, it is a fat reduction technique. The closer you are to your ideal weight, and the more stable your weight is, the better you will enjoy your results. They will be more dramatic and will last longer, especially if you maintain your healthy lifestyle.

Medical Conditions that Impact Body Contouring

Before choosing a body contouring technique, it’s essential to know whether you can actually have the treatment.

There are a few contraindications for any body contouring treatment, including:

  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Uncontrolled blood pressure
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Sunburn
  • Poor circulation
  • Current/recent bleeding or hemorrhage
  • Overactive thyroid

Anyone with pacemakers or other metal implants, rods, hernia repairs with mesh, or an IUD, should not have Emsculpt treatment. Patients with Raynaud’s Disease should not have CoolSculpting. Additionally, patients should not be obese. The ideal CoolSculpting candidate is a healthy individual with three inches of pinchable fat in the treatment area.

The best way to determine whether you are a good candidate for body contouring is by scheduling an appointment with a provider you trust. They will be able to answer any questions and address your concerns to ensure you can safely move forward with treatment.

Is Emsculpt More Effective Than CoolSculpting?

The answer to this question depends on your body goals. Emsculpt is the better option for both fat loss and muscle toning. If your main focus is getting rid of unwanted fat, CoolSculpting works best.

Both options offer fast results that do not involve invasive surgery or extensive downtime. Emsculpt results begin to show within two to four weeks. Optimal results show around six weeks after your last treatment session. We recommend four sessions of Emsculpt, with at least two or three days between appointments. Patients can also choose follow-up sessions after the initial four to continue improving lift and tone if desired.

CoolSculpting results can be seen as quickly as 45 days after your last session, although ideal results show after 90 days. Patients often schedule anywhere between one and three treatments, with at least 60 days between appointments.

How Emsculpt & Emsculpt NEO Work

Emsculpt builds muscle mass while simultaneously burning fat. This happens through high-intensity electromagnetic pulses (HIFEM) that are delivered to the muscles, causing them to contract. These are known as supramaximal contractions, as they are not something you can achieve on your own. In fact, they are the equivalent of doing 20,000 crunches, squats, pushups, etc. to target a specific muscle. That is why it’s so important to ensure that you don’t fall for knockoff body contouring treatments.

If you were to work out for several months, you might expect to see results like Emsculpt. Luckily, it takes about four weeks after the final treatment to see visible improvements with Emsculpt.

Emsculpt NEO is the new and improved version of Emsculpt. While it still uses the HIFEM technology to achieve supramaximal contractions, Emsculpt NEO also incorporates radiofrequency (RF) energy that destroys unwanted fat. With this combination of technology, patients can achieve both fat reduction and muscle strengthening.

Emsculpt and Emsculpt NEO both treat five areas of the body, including:

  • Abdomen
  • Buttocks
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Calves

Days after the procedure, patients report feeling firmer and tighter in the treatment area. Remember that you need to stay active to maintain definition, and you can always schedule maintenance appointments for Emsculpt NEO. As with any muscle training, if you don’t use it, you lose it. That means while Emsculpt is not a substitute for exercise, it will boost your progress immensely, giving you a jumpstart of which to take advantage.

How CoolSculpting & CoolSculpting Elite Work

CoolSculpting has been around for more than a decade, using controlled cooling technology to destroy fat cells. With time, lymphatic drainage naturally detoxifies these fat cells, processing out the fat for a slimmer result.

The cryolipolysis technology of CoolSculpting safely freezes fat cells, while keeping the surrounding skin and tissue safe. That means CoolSculpting only eliminates unwanted fat, spot-treating specific areas of the body.

CoolSculpting Elite is the advanced version of its predecessor. It is more powerful, providing 20-15% fat removal as opposed to 18-20% with CoolSculpting. Depending on which applicator is used with the machine, CoolSculpting, and CoolSculpting Elite can treat the following:

  • Abdomen
  • Flank
  • Inner thighs
  • Outer thighs
  • Underneath the buttocks
  • Upper arms
  • Double chin

Be sure to clarify with your chosen provider whether you’ll be receiving the legacy version or the updated treatment.

Is Emsculpt Better Than CoolSculpting for Belly Fat?

If your goal is to remove stubborn belly fat, then the better choice may be CoolSculpting as fat reduction is the main focus of the treatment. After all, if you have fat covering your muscles, their definition won’t show until that fat is gone.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best choice for you overall. Many patients also consider Cryo T-Shock. While Liposuction is the go-to solution for surgical removal, both Cryo T-Shock and CoolSculpting achieve highly desirable body contouring results without the invasiveness or healing time after treatment.

Cryo T-Shock Vs. CoolSculpting

Excess fat, cellulite, and stretch marks impact most of us at one point or another. It’s part of life, but that doesn’t mean we have to deal with it alone. For many individuals, getting rid of this unwanted fat and smoothing the skin feels like a constant struggle. CoolSculpting and Cryo T-Shock are both effective, popular solutions for fat removal that are not invasive, like Liposuction.

Cryo T-Shock is newer than CoolSculpting. Although it uses controlled cooling to remove fat cells like coolSculpting, it doesn’t stop there. Cryo T-Shock combines cold and hot therapy, balancing the cooling technology with hot currents on the skin and fat to increase blood circulation. This use of both hot and cold temperatures drains frozen fat cells from the body’s lymphatic system more effectively than cooling technology alone.

Is CoolSculpting Better Than Emsculpt NEO?

If you want a leaner physique and targeted fat reduction, CoolSculpting is the best choice. If you’d prefer to both build muscle and reduce fat, Emsculpt NEO will be the solution.

No matter which you choose, body contouring as a whole is meant to boost confidence. Unwanted pockets of fat or untoned muscles can knock your confidence down, but you deserve to feel like your best self. If the gym and proper nutrition aren’t quite getting you to your goals, body contouring treatments can be the final nudge that your body needs.

Both CoolSculpting and Emsculpt NEO are non-invasive procedures. They are FDA-cleared treatments that require no anesthesia, needles, or incisions. With the right provider, the risk of adverse effects is low, and downtime is very minimal. There is typically some mild soreness after either procedure, leading some patients to plan a free afternoon to relax post-treatment.

Combining CoolSculpting & Emsculpt

While some patients prefer one body contouring treatment over the other, others hope to combine the sculpting power for maximum results. Fortunately, it is possible to do so safely and effectively, with the right provider.

Both CoolSculpting and Emsculpt can target:

  • Stomach
  • Inner thighs
  • Outer thighs
  • Arms
  • Legs

CoolSculpting helps you feel better in your clothes – they fit better, and your body feels more proportionate. Emsculpt enables you to tone muscles that are a struggle, improving posture and easing back pain in some cases. Bringing the treatments together strategically can maximize results, allowing patients to reach more than one body contouring goal.
